Swann's June 17 auction of 19th & 20th Century Literature saw quite a few pleasant surprises. Among the books that soared well above their estimates, top lot and Wall Street influencer, Security Analysis nearly quadrupled its pre-sale estimate for an auction record of $23,750.

Louisa May Alcott's seminal novel Little Women fetched $15,600, bringing a bit of feminine flair to the top lots. An excellent association copy of Gertrude Stein's Portrait of Mabel Dodge at the Villa Curonia, inscribed by the author to American art collector, philanthropist and socialite Emily Crane, likewise exceeded its pre-sale estimate at $8,125.
