Mess details the power of objects and Yourgrau's journey to declutter his life and demystify the line between avid collecting and obsessive hoarding.

September 30, 2015 - Lost, Found, and Stewarded: Collecting Stories of African American Civil War Soldiers–with New York Times columnist Eve Kahn, author Zoe Trodd, author Ron Coddington, Swann Auction Galleries African Americana Specialist Wyatt H. Day, Michéle Gates Moresi of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, and BHS Director of Public History Julie Golia, PhD.

October 4, 2015 - Ladislav Sutnar: Visual Design in Action–The editors of the facsimile, Steven Heller and Reto Caduff, will be joined by Swann Auction Galleries President Nicholas D. Lowry to discuss Sutnar's Czech work and the renowned American painter Philip Pearlstein to recall what it was like to work as Sutnar's assistant in New York during the 1950s.

October 12, 2015 - A One Ring Circus: Three Collectors talk about collecting unlikely photographs.
This is a presentation by the School of Visual Arts in conjunction with the International Center for Photography's exhibition: "Hunt’s Three Ring Circus: American Groups Before 1950” and Swann Auction Galleries.
This trio of longtime collectors will talk about their unusual collections of photographs and their individual and unique sensibilities. Why, what and how do they collect? With collector, curator, consultant and professor W.M. Hunt, Swann Vice President and Director of our Photographs & Photobooks Department Daile Kaplan and Josh Sapan, CEO of Rainbow Media and board of trustees member at the New School, People for the American Way, and Museum of the Moving Image.

October 14, 2015- The 36th Annual W. Eugene Smith Grants and Awards Presentation Ceremony
The W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund is presented annually to photographers whose work is judged by a panel of experts to be in the best tradition of the compassionate dedication exhibited by W. Eugene Smith during his 45-year photojournalism career. The grant enables recipients to undertake and complete worthy photojournalistic projects.
Swann Vice President and Director of our Photographs & Photobooks Department Daile Kaplan will give a short presentation about W. Eugene Smith's photography.
