Featuring works by Louise Nevelson from the collection of Albert Argentieri, a friend of the artist (lots 31 to 46), as well as other Abstract Expressionist artists Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner, as well as works by Pierre Soulages, and Zao Wou-ki. European Abstraction is also well represented (lots 71 to 96).
Abstract, Color Theory, Minimalism and Conceptual Art
Featuring a substantial number of works by Alexander Calder (lots 97 to 118), Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg (lots 181 to 196). This section also includes Dorothea Rockburne’s Locus portfolio, offered as a complete set for the first time in 20 years.
Works from the Collection of Stephen Poleskie

Featured in this auction is a stellar collection of works from the late Stephen Poleskie (1938-2019), professor emeritus of art, Cornell University, and founder of Chiron Press, New York’s first fine art screenprinting studio (inaugurated in 1963 on East 11th Street in Lower Manhattan). Among the works in the Stephen Poleskie/Chiron Press collection are paintings by Alex Katz, preparatory drawings and screenprints by Roy Lichtenstein for several Chiron Press editions, multiples and drawings by Robert Indiana and Louise Nevelson, and additional works by Robert Rauschenberg, Ellsworth Kelly and Andy Warhol.

This auction will be held live and conducted remotely by Swann auctioneers taking bids from multiple platforms. While there will not be bidding in the room, we will be accepting order bids, and interested buyers will be able to participate live online via the Swann Galleries App. The app is available in the App Store and on Google Play, and it can also be accessed on a desktop at live.swanngalleries.com.
