Upcoming Highlights: Focus on Women — At Auction July 15, 2021

Lot 176: Women’s Graphics Collective, Dia Internacional De La Mujer: International Women’s Day, screenprint poster, circa 1975. Estimate $250 to $350.


Lot 128: Guild of Women Binders, exhibition binding of A.F. Pollard’s Henry VIII, London, 1902. Estimate $5,000 to $7,500.

Lot 139: Katherine Dunham, small archive of letters and other correspondence, 1948-57. Estimate $4,000 to $6,000.


As collectors and institutions turn their focus to the important contributions of women, Swann is pleased to feature their work at auction in Focus on Women. The sale, curated by senior specialist of early printed books, Devon Eastland, include materials that aims to highlight the stories of all those in the community who identify as women in the fields of activism, art and design, community, education, entertainment, health and wellness, science and innovation, sport, and work.


Lot 72: Jessie Tarbox Beals, archive of signed photographs, 15 silver prints, circa 1930. Estimate $6,000 to $8,000.
Lot 115: Berenice Abbott, Under the El at the Battery, Manhattan, large format silver print, 1936, printed 1979. Estimate $3,000 to $5,000.

Lot 44: Jane Russell, archive of letters written during a whaling voyage, 1840s. Estimate $3,000 to $5,000.

What You Need to Know on Auction Day

This auction will be held live and conducted remotely.

There will not be bidding in the room, though we accept order bids, and interested buyers will be able to participate live via the Swann Galleries App. The app is available in the App Store and on Google Play, which can also be accessed on a desktop at live.swanngalleries.com.

Please note: phone bidding registrations will close the day before the sale at 4pm. 

At this time, our exhibition and auction location at 104 East 25th Street is closed to the public. Private viewings are available by appointment only, and must be arranged in advance. To make an appointment please contact the specialist.
