Swann Galleries’ inaugural Pride Sale in June 2019 was met with a full house and eager international bidding that set auction records were set for material by Donna Gottschalk, Peter Hujar, Harvey Milk, JEB, David Wojnarowicz, Walt Whitman and others. Meanwhile, WorldPride was celebrated in New York City to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the rebellion at Stonewall, and this year, June 2020, marks the fiftieth year since another monumental moment: the first Pride march. We are delighted to offer another auction dedicated to the material culture of the LGBTQ+ community.
Announcing a Portion of Proceeds to Benefit NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project
Given these historic events and the rich local history of our hometown, we are extremely happy to announce the beneficiary of this year’s sale. A portion of the proceeds from participating consignments will be donated to the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project, a pioneering cultural heritage initiative and educational resource that documents historic sites connected to the LGBTQ+ community throughout New York City.
Extended Consignment Deadline: March 6
We’ve extended the consignment deadline for our upcoming auction of LGBTQ+ Art, Material Culture & History, and are looking for archives, historical publications, rare books, ephemera, manuscripts, photographs, and art by and about members of the community. We welcome material by artists, authors and luminaries; Alice Austen, James Baldwin, Richmond Barthé, Claude Cahun, Candy Darling, Nan Goldin, Marsha P. Johnson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Catherine Opie, Gertrude Stein, Wolfgang Tillmans, Alice Walker, Virginia Woolf and Walt Whitman and others.
